You've probably heard about vape battery explosions in the news, which is why safety is so important. Read on to learn all about vape battery safety.
Vaping is known as a safer alternative to smoking, but it can still come with risks.
Despite the fact that vaping is unlikely to exceed 5% of the harm of inhaling tobacco, concerns over the safety of vaping are commonly in the news.
But, is it really dangerous?
When it comes to battery safety, the concerns are justified.
While cases of exploding vape batteries are extremely rare, there are considerations to keep in mind when choosing your vaporizer.
In this blog, we will highlight everything you need to know about vape battery safety.
A vaporizer battery operates just as any other standard battery we use in most devices throughout our day.
A laptop, smartphone, tablet and many pieces of medical equipment operate with the exact same type of battery function.
While vaporizer batteries are produced in a range of sizes, they are made up of the same lithium and ion chemistry.
This chemistry works to provide a huge amount of power, keeping your vaporizer or any other electrical device alive throughout an entire 24-hours, or more.
The major difference between standard, manufactured batteries and vaporizer batteries?
Standard batteries include a chemistry of custom-made lithium ions, whereas some vaporizer batteries are not manufacture approved, jeopardizing their vape battery safety.
Many vapers go out of their way to customize their vaporizers with batteries which provide more power and more cloud - but this doesn't always work out so well!
These vapers have limited knowledge on vape battery safety and as a result, put themselves at risk.
1. Invest In Quality
Set aside the budget to invest in a good quality vaporizer. Ultimately, you get what you pay for in life.
A cheaply made vaporizer and battery can increase your risk of unwanted accidents, such as battery explosions.
2. Choose Your Batteries Wisely
The best way to ensure vape battery safety?
Expensive doesn't always mean the best, make sure to purchase your vape batteries from a reputable brand.
Settling for a cheap product means having to fork out more in the long run!
3. Go For A Smart Charger
Regular chargers for vape batteries have a tendency to overcharge or discharge your batteries.
Choosing to go with a smart charger is your best option for vape battery safety.
Their unique features ensure your battery is always charged to its optimum.
4. Take Care In Transporting Your Batteries
A common mistake made with vape battery safety is neglecting to transport batteries with care.
At the end of the day, all batteries need to be treated with care- and vaporizers are no different.
Carry your vape batteries in a battery case, don't leave them to roll around loose in your pocket or handbag.
Putting these batteries at risk of contacting other metal objects, such as coins or keys, could cause an explosion.
5. Store Your Batteries Well
As with any other electronic device battery, you need to keep temperatures in mind when storing your vape batteries.
Extreme temperatures of hot and cold could potentially damage the longevity and function of your batteries.
Ideally, store them in temperatures between 50 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit.
6. Avoid Switching Up Charging Cables
Try not to change-up the charging cable for your vape battery charger.
Stick with the original charging cable that came with your device.
Using alternative charging cables could potentially overheat your batteries due to higher voltages from other cables.
Additionally, don't opt for cheap chargers.
Be aware that not all 18650 chargers are the same as not all of them include an 'over-charge' function.
Purchase a good quality charger and make sure to use the correct charger for your vaporizer at all times!
7. Don't Over-Drain Your Batteries
FYI: your vape batteries won't be the ones to tell you when they need charging!
Stay on top of regularly charging your batteries so that you avoid completely draining them before their next charge.
Also known as discharging your batteries, it can be just as harmful as over-charging them.
The more you discharge your batteries, the weaker they will become, and will eventually need to be replaced.
Ensure the longevity of your batteries by charging them on the regular!
8. Charge Your Batteries At The Right Amp Level
As with most models of vaporizers, you need to make sure you're charging your batteries at the correct amp level.
Charging at an amp level that is too high or too low can damage your batteries.
Understanding what is known as Ohms Law, is key to understanding how to charge at the best amp level.
Each device has a number variable settings which you will need to adjust to ensure your amp level is correct.
The most common charge level will be between 0.5 and 2 amps.
9. Check The Condition Of Your Batteries
One of the most important aspects of vape battery safety is simple: check the status of your batteries.
Many vapers overlook this simple aspect, but using an old, damaged battery can have dire consequences for your vaporizer!
Generally, your vaporizer batteries will be covered by a plastic sheath.
It's important to check that this sheath is still intact.
If it has holes, rips or tears in it - consider buying a new battery!
10. Insert Your Batteries Correctly
Now, this may seem like a no-brainer, but many a battery has been vented or damaged by being inserted incorrectly.
If your vaporizer does not feature reverse polarity protection, there is a high chance you will fry your battery and potentially damage your mod!
Before inserting your batteries, double check the orientation specifics for your particular vaporizer model.
If your model requires multiple batteries, make sure to replace all the batteries at the same time!
